NOAA Unveils New FishWatch Website
February 27, 2008 – Have you ever wondered how nutritional your seafood really is? How about the history and sustainability of your favorite catch? You can find all of this information at a new website recently launched by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The new site is called FishWatch and the website address is http://www.nmfs.noaa.gov/fishwatch/. FishWatch provides detailed information on 35 types of fish including Striped Bass, Porgy, Bluefish, Mako Shark, and Flounder to name a few. Each fish has a biography, including nutrition facts, population data, conservation facts, geographic range, role in the ecosystem and much more. For example, FishWatch provides in-depth information on the Striped Bass including a history of the population decline throughout the 1970’s and the reemergence of the species earlier this decade. Nutrition facts are presented in a way that is similar to what you would expect to see on the side of a cereal box or a can of soda. There is even a link to award winning recipes. Check out FishWatch today, it’s a very informative site. |
